Project
The goal of the Sintetic project is to create a traceability system for trees, logs and boards, based on IT and IoT technologies, that is reliable, accurate and cost-effective.
The project will be based on a set of hardware and applications designed to generate a unique ID, physically attached to each item and digitally transmitted to a central geodatabase, which will relate each ID to data produced along the value chain, ranging from forest inventory to final processed wood products. A system that will also compare the performance and quality of each value chain process with all previous steps, including historical climate data, silvicultural treatments, and descriptive elements of forest stands
Mission
- Achieve greater value generation of timber assortments from existing forest resources
- Increase the overall efficiency of the timber supply chain
- Providing a greater competitive advantage to the EU forest industry
- Increasing the EU's forest area under active management
- Increase the value of timber, the resilience of forest systems, and increase the ecosystem services provided
- Combating illegal logging and related timber trade
- Facilitate homogeneous and widespread adoption of digital technologies in the forestry sector
